Xan Mattek

Hi there! I'm Xan Mattek- hailing from Salina, Kansas (yes, the same one from Thoroughly Modern Millie). Thanks for being here. Obvs I'd like for you to be able to get a clear picture of *all* the multitudes I encompass but I think we both know a website doesn't always cut it. It will tell you a bit about what I've been up to at this juncture of my creative career.
I grew up doing community theatre because I really needed community. My love of theatre began as a vehicle to express big feelings, learn social skills, problem solve, gain confidence, hone decision making skills and build lifelong bonds. I think it’s still that for me. I’m so GLAD it’s still that for me!
I eventually got quite serious about my craft and went on to study Musical Theatre at Wichita State University with a full ride earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts. Along with participating in theatre I explored a passion for community arts engagement learning to collaborate with artists, musicians and audiences as well as performers. Creativity is a science.
On to bluer waters I found Minneapolis, Minnesota. I am so interested in the little pockets and nooks and crannies and EXCELLENCE that the Twin Cities reveal to me. Being a well-rounded creative person is of the utmost importance to me. I believe that having an informed, inclusive point of view is integral in being a creator (and human being).
What’s next!? I hope it’s our project
and you’re curious who
you’re about to work with...
"There was one standout, Xan Mattek as Sprocket has a confidence, stage presence, and the voice best suited to her role"
- Stages of MN (on Cold Planet, Warm Heart)
" Xan Mattek is so natural and believable"
- Cherry and Spoon (on Bonehouse/Outsider)
"Mattek and Uren know how to utilize the space and draw the audience into the story they are telling... Both performances were perfect matches."
- Life in Revue (on Bonehouse/Outsider)

Teaching Artistry
I offer private in-home voice coaching and piano instruction. I have maintained a steady, loyal client base for serval years in Minneapolis. As a trained performer I have a wealth of knowledge to share not only about musicianship and music theory but style, technique, combatting stage fright and storytelling! To learn more about these services, please contact me at the information found at the bottom of the site.
These talents seep into lots of aspects of my budding career! I am a lead musical theatre teaching artist at the Children's Theatre Company and teach a weekly Musical Theatre Jazz class for adults with the Zenon Dance Company. I am currently participating in a choreography fellowship with Lyric Arts under the tutelage of Lauri Kraft, resident choreographer.
